Puerto Varas was invariably and likely inevitably our base in the south, the Lake District. It's a touristy town, which isn't usually our choice in locale, but it is highly convenient. After we flew south from Santiago to Puerto Montt, we immediately boarded a minibus and hit the road to Pt. Varas. Our plan was to only spend a night there, but we passed through the town no fewer than four times.
