Up The Esperero Trail To Cardiac Ridge
Sabino Canyon, Tuscon, AZ, January, 2009
We chose one of the few trails in the Sabino Canyon Recreational Area that we haven't climbed, the Esperero Trail. It is one of the most difficult trails in the area. The first three or four miles climb quickly up more than 2000 feet, including up a steep meadow to a little pass called Cardiac Ridge. A more apt name might be Cardiac Arrest Ridge, because it is a brutal hike. From there, the trail is pretty rough, but not nearly as steep, and it passes through more beautiful areas. One great thing about Sabino is that it has several very unique landscapes, and this trail isn't different. Our route ended up being roughly 8 miles total. We couldn't make it to the nearby Bridal Veil Falls, we started too late, but it will be a challenge for another day. For more information, click here.
