Blasting Through Turkey
October 4 - 12, 2009

Our last "European" destination was Turkey, arriving from Berlin. We only had a week, and it turns out that Turkey is a huge and fascinating country. We spent a few days exploring Istanbul, then spent every other night on a night bus going all over the country. We headed out to Göreme, which is the center of Cappadocia, a wonderland of bizarre rock formations and ancient cave dwellings, churches, and underground cities. We then headed over to Selçuk, the town just outside the ruins of Ephesus. We made a day trip over to Samos, Greece, then headed back north to Istanbul. It was very rushed, but we wanted to see as much of Turkey as we possibly could. Given its incredible history and beautiful sights, I think that a return visit to more thoroughly investigate this country would be warranted.
