It's an intense environment here, on top of the ridge. The Ponderosa demonstrate that, twisted and gnarled, suffering the constant and powerful influence of the wind and sun. Here, a person could do satisfactory work, seeing the stone come up from the ground, gratifying work, while living a simple lifestyle in a handmade structure created from that very stone.
