If there were a message, perhaps it would be to show the effect of the decreasing manufactoring industry as those jobs have been sold out to foreigners. These factories and empty buildings serve as a stark reminder of what will be offered to American workers when there are no jobs left. When all jobs have been lost to keep prices at Walmart low, then there will be no one able to buy anything anyhow, the result of an economy completely dependent on consumerism.
